The Wisteria Society of lady Scoundrels by India Holton

 genre: historical fantasy

Cecilia Bassingwaite has been raised to be a true Victorian Lady: she drinks her tea with care, she is always aware of the importance of societal conventions and, of course, as a lady-pirate, she never leaves the house without multiple weapons hidden about her person.  When a handsome and roguish looking man arrives prepared to assassinate her, Cecilia manages him with expert skill, just like Aunt Darlington taught her.  Cecilia's greatest longing is to make her aunt proud - that and exact revenge on a shady character from her past.  In this rollicking novel of crusty pirates, handsome swordmanship instructors and a crack team of lady pirates, Cecilia's heart will not be the only thing she's worried about!

Adjectives to describe this book: zany, bonkers, laugh-out-loud-funny.  It will NOT be for everyone - some details are literally confusing until you sort them out and not everyone will find flying houses and the shenanigans of sword-weilding old aunties as hilarious as I do  - but OH the silliness of this book captured me and wouldn't let go.  It is WITTY, so full of tongue-in-cheek, so many funny bits that caught me off guard with their ridiculousness that I was just completely entertained.  For those who love to see the patriarchy spun onto its head, for those who appreciate the Victorian period and all its presumptuousness, for anyone who wants their heroine to be a corset-wearing, jewelry-thieving, pirate-house-captaining proper lady, this the book for you.

CW: a couple swears, one steamy scene and some innuendo
