The Body by Bill Bryson (audiobook)

 genre: non-fiction

I have only a passing interest in physiology and the body but I am a big fan of Bill Bryson and his dry sense of humor. Luckily, Bryson tackles this subject in his usual style and I not only learned a lot but was entertained as well. From the specifics of each organ’s functions to the chronology of medical advancement to all the ways things can go wrong, our bodies and their care is a huge topic to cover!

I never felt like it went over my head or was too detailed to loose my interest. I specifically enjoyed learning the history of our understanding of the brain and how it works.  It gets a tiny bit pedantic at times but not enough to be affect my enjoyment.  I also always enjoy listening to the author narrate his own books - I definitely recommend this book even to non-science types of readers!

I've started listening to non-fiction audiobooks—they work much better for me than fiction. Anything by Bill Bryson would be fun. There was a great interview with him that Alan Alda did on his podcast, Clear and Vivid. He sounds like just the kind of person I imagined him to be!
