Last Christmas in Paris by Hazel Gaynor and Heather Webb (audiobook)

 genre: historical fiction

Evie's life has been a storied one - growing up in a wealthy British household with her older brother Will, and his best friend Tom, the world was her oyster.  But then, the War.  And both Tom and Will leaving in uniform changed everything.  As the years of war stretch on and letters become lifelines. Evie finds she suddenly has to make the kinds of choices that can change one's life in a world crumbling around you.

I listened to this as an audiobook and truly enjoyed the experience.  The narrators are incredibly good and I followed the storyline no problem, even with all the letters and telegrams between all different kinds of people.  I appreciated how this novel brought of many of the different issues of this War, in particular, press coverage and the individual combatant experience, and the writing is quite lovely for such a hard subject.  I did feel like the last bit of the book was rushed and I would've liked more "on stage" interactions rather than off, that makes is a 4 star rather than 5 star book for me.  I'd still recommend it because I enjoyed the audio experience so much.
