People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry (audiobook)

 genre: contemporary romance

Poppy LOVES to travel.  She loves the adventure, the serendipity of it all so much that she's managed to make a career out of it as a travel writer for a hip magazine.  Her favorite trips, though?  Those are the annual summer trips she takes with her best friend Alex.  Trips with Alex are always exactly what she needs - until things get complicated enough that it seems like maybe those trips are a thing of the past.  So Poppy makes one last ditch attempt to have a summer trip with Alex, knowing it will be awkward and complicated but wanting his friendship back desperately enough to handle whatever comes.

Yes, friends to lovers trope.  But SO cute and funny and charming. Plus, it's right up my own personal alley because I love travel too, and following along with Poppy and Alex as we go back and forth in time also scratched my travel-loving itch in a satisfying way.  I was all in with this cute tale of figuring out what you really want and learning to be brave enough to ask for it with the person that feels the most safe.  I know my brain is really on therapy and emotional wellness right now, but I really liked some of the processing these two characters did - it was an interesting twist and different to other books like this I've read.

This was just the sort of brain candy I needed after reading seven young adult novels back to back for the Cybils Awards.

note: sexual scenes but not super graphic and language
