A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry

 genre: stage drama

What happens when a family that's always living on the edge comes into a large sum of money?  When this family is Black and it's just post WWII in Chicago, when the color of your skin determines where you live and where you work, is there any way for such family to even have dreams, let alone live to see them come true?   This play is truly a work of art, a portrait of four adults whose lives are so interwoven, so tightly knit that one choice by one can't help but directly affect the all.  So many important questions here, so many ways to look at a situation and so many ways to place blame and judgment - until our amazing playwright lays bare the gut wrenching truths of the lives of Black people living in a segregated country.  I wish I had given this play my brain power so much sooner.
