This is a story of finding what we desire - or, more accurately, discovering what it is that we TRULY desire while we are in SEARCH of what we desire, which is not always the same thing.
It is a story of a village with a rather unusual flea market, a boy who is more than he seems and the journey that he takes to fulfill a foolish vow.
It is the story of a fallen star, friends in strange places and the realization that we sometimes must travel far to recognize what it is that will make us the most happy.
Knowing nothing about this story when I began listening to it, I had no idea of what to expect. It IS fairy tale, with deliciously evil characters and heros with weaknesses but good hearts. I loved Gaiman's brand of magic, the twists that circled back into each other and how the words themselves flowed as I listened. I didn't want it to end. It was absolutely wonderful, probably partly because of Gaiman's voice and his talent as a storyteller. It certainly made the miles between Baltimore and Chicago fly by. Thank you to those of you that recommended it to me after I enjoyed The Graveyard Book so much.

Oh I love this book! This was the book that introduced me to Neil Gaiman and I'm so happy that I found it. I can't wait to read it again. :)

I didn't love the last Gaiman I read, but I did like it a lot. I need to try another one.
