The Comfort Book by Matt Haig

 genre: non-fiction, self-help

This short non-fiction book is exactly what it says it is - ideas and words that can bring comfort. There are quotes and lists and anecdotes but also a lot of introspection and advice based on the author’s own journey with depression and suicidal ideation. He tells us the things he needed to remember when he was at his lowest, the ideas he found to be true.

It’s both powerful and sometimes repetitive but the ideas are mostly this: we, every one of us, have value and are worthy of good things. The only constant is change. If we can just wait the hard stuff out a little longer, things will be different. And hope is a talisman, truly, to see us to the other side of the darkness.
