genre: contemporary fiction
Frankie and Ezra ended badly, ten years ago. Right as they graduated from college, everything fell apart and during those ten years, they haven't seen or spoken to each other once. Frankie isn't sorry she broke it off and she hasn't thought of Ezra since, except to confirm exactly how angry he made her. Except, when she shows up back at her old college for a friend's wedding and she finds out Ezra is going to be there - it does take effort to NOT care. And as for Ezra, he's got a grand plan to propose to his girlfriend at the stroke of midnight after the New Years Eve wedding and he wants to start the 2000s off with a new fiancé - so Frankie's not even on his MIND. Not much, anyway. When they wake up the morning of the wedding together with no memory of how it happened - it's time for a full blown panic, because Frankie and Ezra are WRONG for each other. Right?
Well, unfortunately, this was a little bit of a let down. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but the two main characters seemed to just really intensely HATE each other nearly all of the book - which takes place over the course of a 24 hour period with lots of flashbacks in between. I just couldn't believe it - I believed the backstory, not the actual plot. My brain just kept thinking (wait, what about this? What about this person? How could that happen and be ok?), too too many things came up as I was reading to ever really loose myself in the story. I did like how both Frankie and Ezra processed all their stuff - and there was a lot - but it happened too fast to feel organic for me. It was interesting enough to keep me engaged but it was mostly just a book about a really challenging relationship between two challenging people and I just never felt the love.
