The League of Gentlewomen Witches by India Holton

genre: historical fantasy romance :)

Charlotte’s knowledge of spells and magic would make her an excellent witch - if, of course, witches existed. Which they don’t. Because if they did then Charlotte would be in all kinds of danger. So it’s best to pretend that Charlotte and her fellow non-witches in their local hiding-in-plain-sight coven stay as far from the public eye as possible. Except that when a famous amulet is found and put on display, not only do Charlotte and her coven take an interest in this powerful object - but those loud and rambunctious pirate ladies think that they have some kind of right to it as well. Charlotte knows that to steal the amulet would be the ultimate chance to prove her worthiness to her elders, but she’s definitely going to have to fight for it - especially when that one particular pirate thinks HE has a right to it as well.

I absolutely picked this up because I adored the first one and truthfully, this did NOT disappoint.  The same crazy humor, the same fantastically capable and strong female characters, a great romantic interest who is a familiar character from the previous book.  These books are just like a giant silly hug, comfort reading at its finest.  I laughed out loud, I swooned, all the things.  I will note - again - they aren't for everyone.  So much of this book is the banter and if that's not your thing, it'll bore you.  It's a little bit tropey - another virginal Victorian woman with some instalove going on but also, it's sweet and romantic and just right for ME :)

cw: maybe one and half steamy scenes and some innuendo.  Maybe a few swears?
