Apples Never Fall by Liane Moriarty (audiobook)

 Genre: adult mystery, family drama

The Delaneys: Stan, Joy and their four children, living the suburban life in contemporary Australia.  What the Delaney’s WERE best known for is tennis - every family member is a formidable player and their family business was a tennis school that even coached a player that went all the way.  Now, though, people aren’t taking about their tennis, they are talking about the mysterious disappearance of Joy Delaney, homemaker and tennis wiz.  What can happen to a family when there is a suspected murder - and how can it get to that point in the first place?

I thought this was surprisingly interesting!  There is an additional main character that complicates things and the way that sport was such a part of their family dynamic was intriguing.  I liked the back and forth in time and I was surprised by the twist at the end.  I even liked the gossipy way the mystery moved forward through neighbors and friends.  It was just too long.  And sometimes it was cringy and painful to see such dysfunction but it also felt realistic.  It was a long listen but the Australian accents helped :)
