An Absolutely Remarkable Thing by Hank Green (audiobook)

genre: science fiction

April May, a 20-something living in New York, isn't living her dream life.  Not even her best life.  She's got big plans but lots of student debt on the day she first sees Carl.

Carl the giant metal statute that randomly shows up on the street.

Carl that changes EVERYTHING and not just for April May, but for the world.

And for April May, that change is going to result in the kind of fame and notoriety that can break people - or can make the into their best selves.  With the world watching, April May is going to have to figure out what her role is in a world where suddenly uncertainty is something everyone has in common.

Oh, this was a fast listen for me!  Super interesting and fast-moving with lots of tiny moving pieces.  I liked the "looking back at what happened" narrative style and April May's honesty and hindsight commentary.  I liked the look at celebrity and how it changes people and especially the role that social media does and can play in a world where people from literally everywhere can be completely accessible.  I liked that vibe maybe the most.
