Talking to Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell (audiobook)

 genre: non-fiction, social science

There is really no way to go about any kind of normal life without, at some point, interacting with strangers. For most of us, it's a daily occurrence as we shop, work or play - but how often do we THINK about HOW we think about these interactions?  What is it about strangers that influences our behavior at any given moment?  Gladwell, in his signature style, goes down the rabbit hole as he picks apart policing, interrogations, suicide, sexual assaults.  How can we explain what happens and WHY, when things go very wrong?   While it's vaguely repetitive (sometimes understandably so as he's trying to keep the thread of his narrative) and it does jump around a bit, I really liked the overall format of this audiobook, way more "podcast" than audiobook.  Interviews, dramatizations, very engaging material that is just INTERESTING.  What Gladwell does well is make us think about things we've never taken the time to notice but become so clear when he brings them to our attention.  He's given me a lot to ponder - some of it very upsetting and relevant in the current climate.
