Sandra's story begins during her childhood in a refugee camp where one night of terror changes her life forever. How does one move on after true trauma? How does one find a purpose? Sandra and her family move forward the best they can and finding (really, MAKING) a place for herself in the wider world takes incredible strength and resilience.
I so admire how Sandra found a way to make her experiences into the kind of bedrock that you can build on. Her connection with her tribe, her love of her family and the home country she was raised in, her desire for justice makes this a really interesting read. She's honest about the parts of her growing up experience that were really challenging and I super appreciated her journey as a voice for other refugees. I would recommend this to older teens who could handle the big issues in it.
