On the Banks of Plum Creek by Laura Ingalls Wilder

genre: fiction

Laura, her parents and two sisters have moved on again, this time to Minnesota.  They settle into a dugout along a creek while Pa builds them a fine wooden house.   Their little dirt home is cozy and there are all kinds of adventures to be had nearby.  There is also, however, a lot of danger - between the crop-eating grasshoppers, the wildfires, the blizzards and Native Americans, Laura's experiences definitely kept the attention of my two five year old boys!!

This book really is a fun one to read.  It's exciting and well-written with concise thoughts that are easy for little minds to follow.  My boys and I had so many discussions because of what happened in this story, one thing after another happened to this poor family!  However based in fact the stories are, we really enjoyed reading about homesteading life.
