genre: young adult fantasy
Let me first say that I ADORED Daughter of Smoke and Bone. I mean, ADORED. This is the sequel but NOT, I am sad to say, the conclusion. I wish I'd know that before I read because probably I would've waited until the third book came out. This is why: it was awesome. I am now dying to know how it ends. I am thrilled that I get to have more time in this world but wow will it be hard to wait.
The battle between the Seraphim and the Chimerea is still ongoing, with Karou and Akiva on opposite sides. In their hearts, however, they both know that there has to be MORE than the brutality of war and against all odds they begin to see that they are not alone in their impossible dream. It's going to take a lot more than dreaming to make change, though, and the road is fraught with horrific violence and unbelievable choices.
So many good twists. I love that I just can never guess where this story will take me. It is, again, beautifully written and incredibly gripping. I missed the romance of the first book, I'm not going to lie, but for a second book it did exactly what it should do: entertain me, keep my attention, leave me begging for more.

Wow, that is some mighty high praise. I have the first book but I've been reluctant to try it since it's out of my comfort zone. It sounds like I need to get over myself.
Ack!!! I am going to listen to this on my drive to MD. Can't wait!!
Can't wait for book 3!
