genre: children's religious literature (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - the Mormons :)
In this gorgeously illustrated picture book, author Mark Nielsen helps us to teach our children that their own experience at church is played out in dozens of different ways all over the world. We meet children from every continent as they worship, are baptized, and spend time with their families. I loved the map in the inside cover so that my son and I could look together to find where everyone lived and how far it was from our home in Maryland.
What I also loved was that I got to have a conversation with him about how to God, WHERE we worship doesn't matter. Whether we are in a hut or a church or our home, to God, what matters is what we DO. And we got to talk about how no matter what language we pray in, that God understands and hears our prayers. That's just a really important conversation to have.
Here is what my 7 year old said when I asked him what he thought, "It's great. I like that it talks about different languages and stuff - and about how kids all over the world believe in Jesus."
We really liked it :)
