genre: young adult graphic novel
rating: 5 out of 5
This graphic novel is the sequel to Plain Janes, which I really liked. This one takes off as the girls start wanting to do something about the boys they have a crush on. They also want to continue their community art projects which are constantly being misunderstood by a police officer in their neighborhood. The Janes use art as an outlet and as a way to bring the neighborhood together - and the narrating Jane also uses it as a way to work through, what seems to be, post traumatic stress syndrome from.
I can't wait to put these books in my daughter's hands when she gets older. They deal with a lot of pertinent issues like falling in love, friendship, making a difference in the community, and working through trauma in a way that is hip and accessable.
