I can't help it

Here's another challenge - picking a few of other's favorite books to read - I like this idea. Melissa is always helping me find the good ones :) It's been fun to read through everyone's selections. Here are mine:

1. Mrs. Mike by Benedict and Nancy Freeman - young adult fiction, a woman marries a Canadian Mounty and ends up in the Canadian wilderness
2. On Fortune's Wheel by Cynthia Voigt - fantastic young adult fantasy
3. Dracula by Bram Stoker - AMAZING and horror-filled
4. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn - Betty Smith - coming of age in New York City
5. Precious Bane - Mary Webb - written in the early 1900s in the British countryside - full of character and truth
6. Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier - a page-turner retelling of the Seven Swans fairytale
7. Wild Swans by Jung Chang - incredible memoir of three generations of women in China
8. The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver - fiction about four sisters living with their missionary father in colonial Africa
9. Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons - oh, the farce! this book is a satiric look at gothic novels - laugh out loud funny
10. A Room With a View by E.M. Forster - the romance, the setting - this is a beautiful novel

The three I'll read...
1. So Big - Edna Ferber (Melissa's List)
2. The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare (Misty's List)
3. The Thief -
Megan Whalen Turner (Mem's List)

I have had So Big on my shelf for ages. Maybe I'll read it with you. Also, you are a challenge-a-holic.

Oh, I was hoping you'd join! Yay!

And Cami, she's not a challenge-a-holic... yet. There are people out there who have joined, like, 30 challenges. A paltry, what 5, is nothing. (I hope.)

OMG - I have been racking my brains over the years for a book I read as a kid that had be in floods of tears - and then I saw your list and Cynthia Voigt - and it's one of hers! The Runner - I'm pretty sure of it - I'm off to Amazon to try and get hold of a copy of the Tillerman series!

Mrs s - I've never heard of The Runner, although I vaguely remember reading Dicey's Song and Homecoming when I was a teen. I've put the series up on my TBR list :)

I found your blog through Melissa's and I'm really excited about it. We might have a pretty similar taste in books since five of your recommended books are some of my favorites. I love:
Mrs. Mike
Precious Bane
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
Wild Swans
Poisonwood Bible

I look forward to following your reviews.
