Hans Christian Andersen Award Challenge

I love this challenge because it's one that I'll do with my kids. Here's what I found on the website about the award itself:

Every other year IBBY presents the Hans Christian Andersen Awards to a living author and illustrator whose complete works have made a lasting contribution to children's literature. The Hans Christian Andersen Award is the highest international recognition given to an author and an illustrator of children's books. Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark is the Patron of the Andersen Awards. The nominations are made by the National Sections of IBBY and the recipients are selected by a distinguished international jury of children's literature specialists.

Awesome! The challenge is for 4-8 books in a year, from May1 of 08-May1-09. And she's letting us use one qualifying book that we've read since Jan 1 of 08. Since I have a year and I'm doing it with my sweet children, I'm going for EIGHT baby!! Four authors and four illustrators. Some I will read with all of my kids, others, because of the subject matter, I'll do with only my oldest or my oldest two. Here's my list:

Katherine Paterson - The King's Equal
Ana Maria Machado - From Another World
Astrid Lindgren - Pippi Longstocking (this is my pre-challenge selection)
Meindert DeJong -Along Came a Dog

Maurice Sendak - A Very Special House
Max Velthuijs - Elephant and Crocodile
Lisbeth Zwerger - Thumbeline
Mitsumasa Anno - Anno's Flea Market
