If you are like me and you love to learn where words come from, then this book is a gem. If you are fascinated with the power of words and how language both evolves with society as well as impacts it, then this book will teach you. If you are truly bothered by curse words and offended by words that reference “private parts,” then this book is not for you. Wordslut dives deep into those dicey topics and truly asks the tricky questions about what words bother us and why. It makes you question and feel curious and sometimes feel really mad and sometimes it made me laugh out loud. I know it is a white-American-centric book. Other groups are for sure discussed but that’s the focus. And within that focus, we really learn about how language serves the patriarchy, in ways I’d never considered. This book made me want to pay more attention and I appreciate it for that. Four fabulous stars for a really interesting read.
