genre: mystery
When chief inspector Armand Gamache arrives in Three Pines, Quebec, all he knows is that a murder has shattered the peace and quiet of this tiny rural town. The elderly woman found in the forest was a friend to everyone- who would have a reason to kill her? It’s up to Gamache and his team to tease out the secrets that hide behind the picturesque windows in Three Pines.I have never read any books by this author, but I have heard a lot about her and was looking for a cozy mystery for this fall. While I do not think this was a particularly well written book, the plot did really keep me going, and I found myself invested in what was going to happen. A couple of the characters were particularly obnoxious and I didn’t like that there were unresolved threads at the end from Gamache’s perspective but maybe that’s because the author knew that there would be many more books to come. I liked Three Pines, it’s exactly the sort of HallmarK Movie Small Town you would want to spend time in while investigating a murder. Three stars die making me always want to pick it up when it was time to walk on the treadmill.
