Thank You For Listening by Julia Whelan (audiobook)

 genre: womens fiction/chick lit

Sewanee Chester's life as an audiobook narrator isn't what she'd planned on - but she's not unhappy with it.  She's had some awesome opportunities and since being an actress is no longer an option, she's trying to find joy with what she's got.  When she ends up in Vegas at a conference and shares an evening with intriguing stranger, all of a sudden life has a little more possibility.  But can Sewanee actually believe that she is capable of having a happy ending?

First of all, the narration is amazing because it's Julia Whelan (narrating her OWN book about an AUDIOBOOK NARRATOR, how meta is that?).  But this is a fun peek behind the curtain at the life of an audiobook narrator while at the same time it's a hard look at overcoming tragedy and lost chances.  The romance is well done except that I guessed how it would all go down so very early.  That being said, though, the banter between our two leads is great (if also a bit too risque for some listeners, I'd guess) and while there is some "love at first sight" there is also a lot of processing and turmoil that has to be managed and I thought that was done with a gentle touch.  The honest truth is that this just really entertained me, start to finish.  My only really big complaint is that the grandma's name drove me crazy - but not enough to spoil this gem of a story.
