All Her Little Secrets by Wanda M. Morris (audiobook)

 genre: thriller

Ellice's traumatic and poverty-striken early life in rural Georgia has been packed away in a tidy box in her head.  Her job as a high powered lawyer (and the only Black woman) at a company in Atlanta has required her to keep a heavy load of secrets but her stable adult life has made it worth it.  When she arrives to work one day to find her boss dead, though, she realizes she's not the only one with secrets.  Her own choices are going to affect the mess she finds herself in and who can she even trust to help her figure out what in the world is going on at her job that lands one man dead with dozens of questions unanswered?  And what could it possibly have to do with her?

This story (super reminiscent of The Firm) kept my attention throughout. Ellice is complicated by her trauma and sometimes how she handles things was frustrating but learning about her life in frequent flashbacks made this story an interesting one to me.  I didn't guess the ending and while the writing didn't amaze me, it didn't annoy me either.  Having to experience how hard it was for her to make a place for herself in those boardrooms full of white Southern men, her being a Black woman made Ellice's story an even more intriguing one.  As far as murder mysteries go (and I admit, it't not my favorite genre) this was a good one.
