I am Half Sick of Shadows by Alan Bradley

genre: mystery

When you are stressing out about maybe buying a house and packing up your life along with being in charge of twin nine month olds, you need to be able to just listen to something delightful while you do your dishes and run your errands.  That's why I just keep reading Flavia de Luce novels.  Flavia has become an old chum, and in this Christmasy installment, we spend even more time at her ancestral home of Buckshaw because a movie is being filmed there and of course there is a murder.

It doesn't really matter what happens, in my opinion, I just want to keep listening to Flavia talk.  Her witty and wiser-then-her-years internal monologue are why I love these books, her way of looking at the world and being so very intelligent and yet with these moments of absolute 11yearoldness, where her feelings are so real and raw.  The plot in this book wasn't as interesting to me as any of the previous books, the victim and the way everyone handled the murder, the ah-ha! moments, they just weren't as realistic or believable to me, but I still really enjoyed myself in her world.

I will listen to them all.
