Every Day by David Levithan

genre: young adult

Each day when our main character, A, wakes up, he is in a new body.  A has no idea of where he will be, what  his family will be like or what classes he will have to sit through at school.   Life is a series of first impressions and introductions, with not a single lingering relationship.  Not until, in Justin"s body, he meets Rhiannon.  Then, everything changes and the rules he has made for his unconventional life seem to matter less than his need to see her again.

So, I chose HE as the pronoun for that first paragraph, but A is not really a  boy or girl,  A is A, a collection of memories and observations, from life as both a boy and a girl, that travels from body to body.  A has his own feelings but can also access the feelings of his host, which helps him manage to live as someone else every day while still staying himself.  I was very intrigued by this story.  I love that A not just teaches us about how different we all are, but also how the things that we need most are really universal - love, a caring person to watch over us, a chance to live our dreams.   The writing is clean and thought-provoking, parts made me emotional the ending surprised me in a good way.  Glad I read it.

This does sound thought provoking - maybe good for a book club read.
